I spent a fab week at Snape Maltings Pond Gallery. I met many art lovers and had conversations with people that I loved. I love that. Sold a few things too. Annabel loves to see the work on the walls. Agreed. In the moments when the space wasn’t mobbed, I began thinking about what I would do in the studio after more than a week of not painting.
I belong to Colchester Art Society. I haven’t managed to be very involved lately. Events have clashed with other events but their latest call for members was to respond to something from their permanent collection. This year is our 80th birthday!
I perused the permanent collection and selected the painting I wanted to respond to by mid-week in the gallery. I set up the still life one evening when I got back so I could begin immediately once the show was over. I haven’t even put my stuff away but I did finish my painting in time to submit it.
The painting I chose to reference is Viridian and Rust, c.1977, Oil on board, 21 x 17 in by Bruce Killeen. My response is colour based. Killen was ‘untrained’ and the title is one of his quotes.
