Night Owl

£0.00

Night Owl, egg tempera on panel, 29.5 x 30 .5 cm, July 2025

Like many teenagers, I played the guitar. One of my folk heroes lived on the same block that we did – James Taylor – and when I wasn’t cartwheeling, roller-skating or painting, I was singing songs from the Judy Collins, James Taylor or Joni Mitchel songbooks.

‘Now, most folks, they like the good day time, baby
They like to see the shining sun
They’re up in the morning, off and running
Till they’re too tired for having fun
But when the sun goes down and them bright lights shine
My daytime has just begun
Oh, I’m a night owl, honey, oh, sleep all day long’ —James Taylor

What kind of person are you? I am your quintessential morning person.

I set this painting up for Open Studios to show visitors how I begin a painting. the end result always feels far off…
