Limelight

£500.00

I visited and exhibition, LIGHT, COLOUR & THE COSMOLOGY OF PIGMENT. I happened to be there when my favourite artist at the show was giving a demo. She taught me about zinc white and other things which I experimented with in this painting. I never have a plan except to look at what I have set up and then I respond as I paint. Some of what you are looking at morphed from what I was looking at. Some I layered and layered until the exact character was resolved.

The ‘house-painting’ of this painting I owe to Lily, whose work and demo were inspiring. The subjects are mine and the title, the story and the way I compose was a mix of everything I have been thinking about while I haven’t been painting. Somewhere in the middle I realised that zinc white is colder than titanium which I don’t like, and that is a lesson in why we all have our own handwriting and preferences.
