egg tempera on panel, 31 x 30cm, January 2026
“I felt once more how simple and frugal a thing is happiness: a glass of wine, a roast chestnut, a wretched little brazier, the sound of the sea. Nothing else.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis, Zorba the Greek
On the cusp of 2026, I put together some of my favourite colours. There was a peasant girl in a glass case at a charity shop in Lewisham who came home with me and whispered in my ear about the joy of living in our patterned house, with my ‘friend for life’ – feet solidly under the table of our lives while we sample the simple pleasures.
I wouldn’t trade this peasant life even if I had the choice.
